The Irish Farmers Journalhas learned that the ship will sail set sail as early as next Tuesday.

As revealed by the Irish Farmers Journal this week, the MV Sarah docked in Waterford on Wednesday this week.

The breeding heifers will be sold to local farms in Turkey for breeding purposes.

Exporter John Hallissey is the man behind the sailing.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that Hallissey has assembled the cattle over recent month and the animals have now passed health and quarantine tests.

The MV Sarah, which is owned by a company in Lebanon, had been awaiting final veterinary approval.

Turkey

Turkey has become a good outlet for Irish cattle in the past year.

In 2016, Co Meath-based exporter Viastar shipped some 20,000 cattle to Turkey. More recently, exporters Purcell Brothers have secured a contract to ship young bulls to Turkey. The bulls must be born since May of last year and weigh under 320kg.
