Forecast for the week ahead
Thursday/Friday
Heavy rain will develop across the south of the country during Thursday morning and gradually spread northwards. The rain will persist across most of the country during the afternoon and evening, before clearing from the north overnight.
Strong northeasterly winds will develop Thursday evening and night, with the winds turning more northerly by Friday.
Friday will then be a cold bright day. Showers will be frequent in northern areas and along eastern coasts. Otherwise the day will often be dry over most parts of the country. Frost Friday night.
Saturday/Sunday
A cold frosty start to Saturday. The morning will be dry and bright with the afternoon gradually getting cloudier. Rain will develop along western coasts by Saturday evening and will spread to the rest of the country overnight.
Sunday will be a cloudy damp day. Outbreaks of rain will be persistent at times, especially over the west and north.
Outlook Monday to Wednesday
Monday will be dry and bright but rather cool. After that it will become mild and unsettled, with rain developing during Tuesday and Wednesday.
