Farm Management

No cab, no limits!

By Steven Vale

With a maximum height of just 1.9 metres on 16.9R30 tyres, Claas is pitching this tractor (right) at stock farmers with low buildings.

This tractor is essentially a roll-bar version of the existing Renault Celtis.

It will soon be available in a number of European countries - but not in the UK or Ireland for the time being. Known as the Celtis RA, there are in fact four models in the series - namely the 426, 436, 446 and 456 (with power ratings from 72 to 102hp).

The platform is mounted on silent blocks and the two front lower windows remain to protect the operator's legs from dirt and debris. Furthermore, the roll-bar is collapsible and the customer can opt for an exhaust outlet located under the rear axle to reduce the tractor's height even more.

Offering much the same technical specification as conventional versions, these Celtis RA models are reportedly €2,700 cheaper than their cab-equipped counterparts. You can't buy one here - not yet anyway - but it makes for an interesting picture nonetheless. And it's evidence that Claas is keen to broaden the appeal of its Renault-built product range around Europe.

ScotGrass on the way

Jim Breen

Organised by the AEA and SAC, ScotGrass 2004 will take place on Thursday, 20 May near Lockerbie in Scotland.

This is the first such event for six years (the event scheduled for 2001 fell victim to the FMD crisis). It promises to give farmers the opportunity to see the latest equipment working in realistic conditions as well as encompassing a large static area for products and services for the livestock farmer.

Most major farm machinery companies will be present, exhibiting their wares and demonstrating their latest machines in a genuine grass crop of some 100 acres.

The venue is Roberthill Farm near Lockerbie and is located close to the A74(M). The event will run from 10am to 4pm and admission will cost £10 per car or £5 for cars occupied by just one person.
