Agri-businesses performing well in top 100 brands
By Regina Fogarty
A recent survey on the top 100 branded products sold in Ireland, in the August edition of Checkout Ireland magazine, makes good reading for many agri-food brands.
Three are performing strongly in the top 10. Avonmore Fresh Milk remains second in the table with €92.1m, while Premier Milk has fallen from third to seventh with €57.5m. Denny Prepacked Cooked Sliced Meats remains ninth with €50.5m. These three brands equal €200.1m or 12.9% of the €2,589.3m total.

There are 20 agri-food brands in the top 100, and several more that have direct contributions from the agri-food industry. The chocolate crumb factory in Kerry which supplies Cadburys with raw materials is itself entirely supplied by Boherbue Co-Op's four million gallon milk pool.
Glanbia owns seven brands in the top 100, which are mainly dairy products.
Kerry also owns seven brands, in meat, water and dairy products. Dairygold owns four brands, in pigmeat and dairy and Kepak own just one - Big Al's. IAWS own two brands, but their largest brand, Cuisine de France, wasn't featured in the table because of lack of brand identification, according to Terence Cosgrave, editor-in-chief of Checkout Ireland.
"It is possible that many consumers are buying 'a bread roll' and not necessarily 'a Cuisine de France roll','' he said.
