Sales training starts at FTMTA Skillnet

The first of the FTMTA Skillnet training programmes began this week. There were 12 participants in the two-day Professional Sales Training Course held at the FTMTA Training Centre, in Newhall, Naas. The course has been designed for farm machinery companies to help staff achieve better sales goals.

There was tremendous demand for the course and, as a result, FTMTA Skillnet is planning on a repeat of the course in two batches in the coming weeks. Liam McDonnell, Network Manager for FTMTA Skillnet said that there will be other courses in Tractor Skills and further sales training modules available in the coming weeks.

The sales training programme has been provided by VFM Associates for FTMTA Skillnet. The FTMTA Skillnet programme is supported by the Department of Trade Enterprise and Employment.

Over weight tractor case dismissed

The case heard in Limerick District Court last week on the issue of over weight in a tractor and trailer three-axle combination, was dismissed by Judge Tom O'Donnell on the basis of legal ambiguity.

In the third day of the hearing of the case, Judge O'Donnell said that the case required complex calculations and the State's evidence in the case did not solve the ambiguity surrounding the regulations in relation to the Road Traffic Act 1962.

The case was brought by a Limerick Gardai against a local contractor who was using a five-axle low loader trailer to transport a digger in December 2006.

FTMTA was in attendance and provided support for the defence case.

The Judge sought to seek a High Court review of the issues that arose as a result of the case. This is expected to take some time.
