Comment: Price increases were again seen in a number of EU countries last week, said IFA Pigs Committee Chairman Michael Maguire. This was following two weeks of falling prices in most countries except Denmark, which this week dropped 3c/kg to suppliers. Ireland's mid March 4c/kg saw the price (€1.40) come to within 4% of this weakened EU average (€1.45). Even with drops in the major producing countries, the average dropped only 1c/kg. This is the closest Ireland has come to the average since mid February and with static Irish prices for this week and EU increases, the gap will widen once more.
