Pig prices reported to IFA Week-commencing 08/09/08

Rosderra €1.66/kg - €1.70/kg

Dawn €1.68/kg - €1.72/kg

Pork Sltrs. €1.65/kg - €1.72/kg

Comment: IFA Pigs Committee Chairman Michael Maguire said it was unsurprising that pig prices were static this week despite the drop in prices on the continent. As expected supplies are tightening following the large cull sow kill that took place in Q4 2007. This should have more of an impact on pig finisher numbers over the next couple of weeks. Last week a number of processors North & South jumped the gun dropping prices when other EU countries increased prices. This week the Danish price rose by 2c/kg while German and Dutch prices eased back.
