Following confirmation of the exchange rate used in the currency smoothing mechanism to convert the milk price for this quarter, the UK standard litre has increased by 0.03ppl to 25.83ppl.

Commenting on the decision to hold the milk price at this rate for farmers, a spokesman for Arla said: “Commodity markets continue to show their recent negative trend and trading conditions are difficult. We maintain our focus on maximising the returns for our members at a challenging time.”

New milk for children

Last week Arla launched Arla Big Milk, fresh milk enriched with essential nutrients to help support children’s growth and development. The company says it is the only such milk in the UK.

Arla Big Milk has been developed specifically to meet the needs of children from ages one to five and it is made with 100% British whole cows’ milk.

As well as the calcium that naturally occurs, the new brand of milk includes added Vitamin D for normal growth and development of bones in children, added Iron that contributes to normal cognitive development of children, and added Vitamin A which contributes to a toddler’s normal development and growth, keeping eyes, skin and the immune system healthy.
