Aryzta have announced the appointment of Kevin Toland as the group’s new chief executive. Toland is currently the chief executive of DAA, the management company of Dublin and Cork airports and will take up his new position as Aryzta chief executive following a customary six-month notice period, or earlier, if mutually agreed by himself and DAA.

Glanbia experience

Toland brings with him a wealth of experience in the food industry having previously held senior positions with Glanbia as chief executive and president of Glanbia USA & Global Nutritionals. He served as a member of Glanbia’s board of directors from 2003 to 2013.

Under Toland’s leadership, revenues at Glanbia’s global nutritionals business grew to over $1bn, while sales for Glanbia’s US cheese business more than doubled to $1.8bn, increasing its US market share from 6% to 13%.

Toland joined Glanbia in 1999 and has held roles including Group Development Director, chief executive of Consumer Foods and Director of Strategy and Marketing.

Before joining Glanbia, Toland held a number of senior management positions with Coca Cola Bottlers in Russia and with Grand Metropolitan in Ireland and Central Europe.

Unanimous board choice

In a statement, the board of Aryzta said it “unanimously” selected Toland on the basis of proven track record, deep global sector expertise and the specific relevance of his background and experience.

During his tenure as chief executive of DAA, passenger numbers at Dublin airport increased from 19m per annum to 28m last year, making Dublin airport the fastest growing airport in Europe.
