The 10 elite foals in the sale were paraded in front of the large crowd gathered for the Discovery.

“This sale included foals from some of Ireland’s best show jumping families with siblings of MHS Going Global, Electric Cruise and TKS Timeline,” said organiser Marcus O’Donnell. “We also have foals from the families of Diamond Exchange, Kilcoltrim, Castlepollard and Dorado.”

One the night, four of the 10 foals presented for sale under the hammer of Robert De Vere Hunt of Cashel Marts sold. The sale’s top price was €15,000, which O’Donnell suggests is a price that may not be beaten for a while.

Show jumper and producer of young horses Greg Broderick signed the ticket for this one, which O’Donnell said has the potential to be the “next Going Global”.

Broderick has already had huge success with this family as this bay colt by OBOS Quality is out of the same mare as Going Global and another of his success stories, Ballypatrick Flight.

“The foal looked a really nice type,” said Ger O’Neill, who bought the foal with Broderick.

“It is a half-sister to seven-year-old national champion, MHS Going Global, ridden by Broderick, which I think is one of the best horses to come out of Ireland in a long time. We would rather buy one very good foal than several cheaper ones that are not as well bred. We need to try and aim for the top now and hopefully he will do that.”

The next highest price was the last lot of the night at €5,200. This was another son of OBOS Quality out of a Shannondale Sarco mare consigned by Patrick Talty. Kevin Meagher sold his Capri Van Overis filly out of a Guidam mare for €3,400 and the Connolly Stud Farm colt by Future Trend sold for €4,800.

After the sale Carol Armstrong’s Cardento filly out of a Diamond Serpent mare sold for €5,000 to a syndicate from the Waterford Sport Horse Breeders Group.
