Creating an account

If you want to place an advert to appear in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal, you must have an online account.

Setting up an account is easy and only requires you to fill in some details and then you will be able to place your advert.

How do I create an account?
  • From the Classified section of the website, click on the Place Advert button that is in the top banner masthead.
  • This will open a new webpage that will have three options;
  • Login or
  • Create account
  • Reset/ Change Password
  • If you click on Create account this will bring you to a new webpage that has an online form which can be filled in to create a new account

What details do I have to fill in on this form?
  • All details that have a asterisk beside them are required and have to be provided (eg. *Name)
  • Details such as Postcode, Mobile Phone Number and Website Address can be filled in if you wish to do so.
Once you are finished filling in your details, click the Register button at the bottom of the webpage.

You now have a personal account with the Irish Farmers Journal online and can use the online service to place adverts in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal.

When looking to log in again, you will need to give the email address you supplied when registering and the password that you selected, so keep a record for future reference.




Creating a Classified Advert



How to book an advert online?
  • Classified adverts are very easy to book with the Irish Farmers Journal and are a great way to promote your product to a large audience both in print and online.
  • An advert can be booked by clicking on the Classifieds tab on the main red masthead banner at the top of the www.farmersjournal.ie homepage.
  • Clicking on this banner will bring you to the Classifieds section of the website.
  • From this webpage, click on the Place an Advert button on the main masthead banner and fill in the online form to complete place your advert.

To place an advert in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal, you need to have set-up an account online.

Step 1/4 - Enter your advert details below

What "Classification" should I pick for my classified advert?
  • Selecting the correct "classification" for your product is very important.
  • Pick the "classification" most relevant to the product that you intend to advertise.
  • eg. If you wish to advertise a "Massey Ferguson tractor", scroll through the options and select Machinery for sale.

Do I have to include an image with my advert?
  • Providing an image with your classified advert is optional, though it is recommended that you do so.
  • Having an image with your advert makes the product much more appealing to prospective customers as they are able to see the product which is being advertised.
  • An image to accompany your advert also makes the classified stand out more on a page in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal as an image is more likely to attract people's attention towards your advert.

How do I add an image to my classified advert?
  • The second option on the online form allows you to add an image to your classified advert.
  • Click the browse button located beside the Image field. This will open a new window that will allow you to explore the content of your computer, eg. My Pictures.
  • Once you have located the image on your computer, click on it. Then click the open button at the bottom of the new window to upload your image.
  • NOTE: Any image that you wish to accompany your classified advert must be in JPG, GIF or PNG format.

What should I write in the "Intro" field?
  • The Intro field should in two to three words briefly describe what you intend to advertise.
  • eg. '08 Massey Ferguson
  • An Intro is required for every advert being placed with the Irish Farmers Journal.

What should I write in the "Body" field?
  • The Body field allows you to give more detail about the product you wish to advertise.
  • Eg. Massey Ferguson 8690, 4-wheel drive, 900 hours. As new. Private sale.
  • A description of what is being advertised is required for every advert being placed with the Irish Farmers Journal.

What other details do I need to provide?
  • Along with an Intro and Body for your classified, Contact details including name and a phone number are also essential.
  • You may give as many Contact details as you wish in relation to the product.

How do I specify when I want my advert to appear in the Irish Farmers Journal?
  • The place ad in edition button allows you to pick what edition your advert will appear in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal.

How do I specify for how long I want my advert to appear in the Irish Farmers Journal?
  • The Number of weeks to place my ad button allows you to pick the number of weeks you wish your advert to appear in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal.

  • Standard lineage is the most basic layout and your text will appear as a long sentence, with your Intro in bold font.
  • Centred lineage is a step up from the previous ad display. Along with your Intro in Bold, your name and contact details will also be in Bold font.
  • Ruled lineage is the same layout as Centred lineage, although the top and bottom of your advert will be given a border to prevent your classified from blending in with other adverts above and below it in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal.
  • Picture Lineage is the exact same package as Ruled Lineage, however with this option, your advert will get a picture in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal.

What is the pricing for these different ad types for display in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal?
  • Standard lineage - ?17.25
  • Centred lineage - ?17.25
  • Ruled lineage - ?52.25
  • Picture Lineage - ?77.25
When you have selected the layout you wish, click the Select ad type and continue button at the bottom of the webpage.



Step 3/4 - MAXIMISE YOUR EXPOSURE - Enhance your print ad with an online package



If you selected one of the first three layout options for your advert in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal, you will have three options to pick from for your online Picture Package.

What does enhance your print ad with an online package involve?
  • This new service being provided by the Irish Farmers Journal online allows you to stand out from the crowd by adding extra content to your advert that can be viewed online.
  • Regardless of which package you select below, all users can now manage their print advert online for free.
  • This free service allows you to add extra information to your advert
  • eg. An email address, web address, Google map to specify your location, and price.
  • This free service allows to you to promote your advert further and increase the possibility of a potential buyer getting in contact with you.

What advantages do the paid packages have over the free service?
  • There are two other packages that can be selected on top of the Free Basic Package already provided.
  • Lineage Package allows you to upload one image to your advert online and add one information panel. (Eg. further elaboration on the product). This package costs an extra ?5.
  • Picture Package is the top deal available and costs an extra ?10. This package allows you to upload 4 images to your advert online, 4 information panels and have your advert appear in bold font in the listings.

If you selected fourth layout option for your advert in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal, you will be able to avail of the Lineage Package and Picture Package for cheaper prices.

What are the advantages of picking the Picture Lineage package in Step 2?
  • If you pick the Picture Lineage package option for your advert to appear in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal you will be able to avail of cheaper prices for added online content.
  • The Picture Package will cost ?5, while the Lineage Package is free if you pick your advert to appear as a Picture Lineage in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal.

Step 4/4 - Final step - Preview and pay



What does Step 4 involve?
  • This is the final step before you place your advert in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal.
  • A sample image of how your classified advert will appear in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal will appear on the left hand side of the screen.
  • A list of your details that include your name, contact number and email address will appear will appear.

How do I go back and change certain details?
  • At the bottom of each webpage there is a button called Back. If you wish to return to a previous page, click this button.
If you are satisfied with the information in Step 4, click the Proceed to Checkout button that the bottom of the webpage. This will bring you to a webpage where you can fill in your credit card details to pay for the classified advert.



Revising your web advert



How do I revise my Web Advert?
  • Click on the Classifieds Tab in the red menu bar at the top off the www.farmersjournal.ie. Clicking on this will bring you to a new webpage with more options. Click on the tab Revise Web Advert at the top of the page.
  • You will then have to enter your email address and password. By doing this you will see your advert with two options beside it.
  • You can either Renew your advert or Revise Online. Click on Revise Online and your add will appear. You can now start editing your add by adding photos and captions.

How do I upload an image to my advert online?
  • Double click on Upload a New Photo and a new window will appear allowing you to select your photo, double click on the photo that you wish to add and it will upload to your advert online.

How do I add a caption to my image(s)?
  • If you wish to add a caption on your photos you can do so by typing what you want to say in the field that says Caption for Picture 1. You can do the same for pictures 2, 3 and 4.

How do I add a Google Map to my advert?
  • By adding a Google map the person viewing your advert will be able to view your location and how to get there. If you would like to add a Google Map for the person viewing your add, click yes on add Google Map on the left hand side of your add, then click on the Google Map on the right hand side of the page and go to your destination.

When you are finished editing your advert, click Save Changes, you will then see your fully edited and finished advert. Once you?ve finished viewing your advert, Click Confirm Changes and your advert will then be approved.

How do I renew my advert?
  • Click on the Classifieds Tab in the red menu bar at the top off the www.farmersjournal.ie. Clicking on this will bring you straight to your advert and you can now start editing it.
  • When you are finished editing your advert, click on the Preview Ad button at the bottom of the webpage. You will then have to select an Ad type for display in the print edition of the Irish Farmers Journal. You are given a choice of 4 different types of displays.
  • Once you choose your display, click on Select Ad Style And Continue at the bottom of the webpage. When you click on this you will be brought to Step 3, MAXIMISE YOUR EXPOSURE - Enhance your print ad with an online package.
  • This new service being provided by the Irish Farmers Journal online allows you to stand out from the crowd by adding extra content to your advert that can be viewed online.
  • Regardless of which package you select below, all users can now manage their print advert online for free.
  • This free service allows you to add extra information to your advert.
  • eg. An email address, web address, Google map to specify your location, and price.
  • This free service allows to you to promote your advert further and increase the possibility of a potential buyer getting in contact with you.
When you select the package you want to enhance your advert, Click Select Package And Continue. The Final Step- Step 4 is Preview and Pay. Firstly you will get a preview off your advert where you can double-check for errors. Once you have checked it for errors, Click Proceed to Checkout and Pay.



Searching for a Classified Advert online



How do I search for an advert online?
  • Click on the Classifieds tab in the red menu bar at the top of the www.farmersjournal.ie homepage.
  • Clicking on this tab will bring you to the Classifieds section of the website.

On the Classifieds webpage there are numerous ways to search for a specific classified adverts.

Menu bar at the top of the webpage
  • The grey menu bar located at the top of the webpage allows you to pick from seven different categories including machinery, livestock, horses, motors, recruitment, property and general, to refine your search.
  • Run your mouse over the menu bar to expand on the categories named above and further refine your search.

You can also narrow your search by using the one of the three search bars located at the bottom of the Classifieds webpage.

What is the difference between a Keyword Search and an Exact Phrase Search?
  • Typing in a keywords for the product you are looking for in Exact Phrase Search and Keyword Search will narrow the results of your search, eg. Hereford or John Deere
  • The Exact Phrase Search option can be used to search for specific details about the product you require (Eg. '87 JOHN DEERE 2140)
  • The Keyword Search option can be used for a more general search that gives a wider variety of results for your search (Eg. Dairy cows)

How do I search using a "Web Ref"?
  • Every classified in the Irish Farmers Journal has a specific reference number printed in red, which is unique to that product.
  • If a classified which appears in the Irish Farmers Journal has a red camera symbol beside it and a red reference number in red, this signifies that there is a photo to accompany this advert online.
  • If you wish to view the photos that accompanies this advert online, use the Web Reference search bar located at the bottom of the Classifieds webpage.
  • Type in the red reference code into the search bar and this will lead you to the added online content.

How do I get a reference code for my classified?
  • You can get a red reference code to accompany your advert by upgrading your classified online and adding extra pictures of your product.
  • Having extra pictures and details of your product online gives the customer more information about the product and could increase sales.

How do I upgrade my classified online?
  • You can upgrade your classified by adding images online. This will make a red coloured camera icon appear beside the Web Ref number that accompanies your classified in the Irish Farmers Journal.

Results from your search
  • When you have typed in your Exact phrase, Keyword or Web Ref, the results of your search will be displayed in the format shown in the image. (Include image example of search results)
  • Along the left-hand side of your results page, there will be a green camera symbol with a number inside. This digit tells you the number of photos that can be viewed for the associated classified.
  • Along the centre of your results will be the description that briefly tells you about product being advertised.
  • To the right of the description will be the county from which the product is being sold. You can click on the County tab located just above your set of results, allowing you to select a specific county or region from which you desire to see classifieds.
  • On the far right hand side of your results, a picture of the product will appear if an image has been submitted to accompany the advert.
  • From your results page, you can start your search again by using the search bars at the top or the bottom of the webpage.

How do I view the results of my last search?
  • If you wish to view your previous set of search results, you can click on the Click here for last search results option, which can be found in below the search bars near the top of the webpage.

How do I view more information about the classifieds in my results?
  • If you wish to see more information about a classified that has appeared in your results, you can click on the description of the classified.
  • This will open up a new a webpage that has all the details in regards to the product being advertised and any additional images that have been uploaded for this product.
  • Along the left hand-side of the webpage, there will be details that give the name of the seller, name of the product, contact details for the seller and the individual web reference for that product.

How do I look at the extra images that accompany a classified online?
  • Extra images that have been added to a advert online can be viewed by either:
  • Using the web reference number accompanying the classified in the Irish Farmers Journal to find the classified online.
  • Clicking the description of individual results from your search online and in the new web page that has opened, clicking on the images,
    which appear below the larger image in the centre of the screen.

How do I print this advert?
  • All adverts can be easily printed for future reference by clicking the green Print this advert tab, which can be found above the space where the image accompanying the product is situated.

How can I report an issue I have with an advertisement?
  • Every classified advert online can be reported by a person if they feel that the advert contains abusive content. The Report abuse on this advert tab can be found above the allocated space where the adverts image appears.

Tell someone else about the advert.
  • You can send the contents of an advert you are viewing to other people by clicking on the Send this advert to a friend tab located above the allocated space where the adverts image appears.
  • Clicking on this tab will bring you to a different webpage.
  • In this new webpage, enter the recipients email address and your email address. Then click the Send to my friend tab.

Can I go back and view my previous search results?
  • If you want to go back and view your previous set of search results, click the Back to search results tab, which is found above the space which is occupied by the image associated with the classified.


Web Ref



What is a "Web Ref"?.
  • "Web Ref" is short for "Web Reference". It is a unique number which every classified has that can be used to quickly search for it's corresponding classified advert online.

Where do I find a "Web Ref"?
  • "Web Refs" are in the bottom right hand side of classifieds that appear in the Irish Farmers Journal. It will be a series of numbers that appear in the bottom right hand side of the classified.

Why do some "Web Refs" have a camera icon beside them in the Irish Farmers Journal?
  • The camera icon that is beside some "Web Refs" indicates that the classified advert has been enhanced online. This means that the advert has additional photos that can be viewed when using the Irish Farmers Journal online.

What are the benefits of a "Web Ref"?
  • "Web Refs" allow you to broaden the scope of your advertising and reach a wider group of potential customers.
  • Having a "Web Ref" for your classified will make your advert stand out more on the page with the red camera icon drawing their attention and intrigue their interest to view the extra images online.
