It is easy to craft the perfect Christmas in your home by using sprigs of foliage from your garden, or a local florist. It is a natural look that is incredibly easy to achieve.

This year I have also been influenced by the interiors trend “hygge”, which seems to be in every magazine and paper recently. It is a Nordic lifestyle trend that makes you feel warm and cosy – and that is just reading about it!

Christmas Wreath

When it comes to wreath-making, simplicity is key. Use foraged materials added to twisted birch and willow with floral wire to create a beautiful welcome to your home this Christmas.

Wreaths such as this also work well on indoor walls or over a fireplace. The wreath pictured here is from The Informal Florist – www.theinformalflorist.com – and they deliver nationwide.

Brown Paper Packages

Create your own gift wrap by using brown paper packaging that is easy and cheap to source. Try your local post office. Use string and a few springs of greenery.

Eucalyptus smells so wonderful that I love to use it. Natural linen works well in the same regard.

Luxury Wrapping Paper

If the natural aesthetic is not for you, why not try this luxe navy and gold paper adorned with a textured ribbon? I bought this at Article in Powerscourt Centre, Dublin, but if you have some old wallpaper left over, it would work in the same way.

Candle-lit Door Entrance

The weather this year has been so mild that it kindly let me arrange these lit candles on a November day. I used a mix of unwaxed pink candles and waxed ivory candles interwoven with strands of ivy to create this woodland look. However, it is probably best to use glass candle holders or hurricane lamps to create this look in December!

It creates a wonderful warm entrance to greet your guests during this festive season. I bought these lanterns and candles from a supplier, but most interior shops sell good-quality ones.

Glass Bottles

Recycle clear glass wine bottles/lemonade bottles to create candleholders. IKEA or your local hardware shop may also stock similar ones.

Fill the bottles with water, add sprigs of greenery and top with tapered candles. I really like the spruce fir in these, which are easily accessible at this time of the year. A great way to use leftover clippings from your tree, this is also a great gift idea.

Pine Cone Name Cards

Simply write guest names on hard card and slot between the woody arms. Use this as a simple and effective place setting for Christmas Day.

I bought these name cards at Daintree on Camden St in Dublin, but you can easily make them at home using a paper guillotine or scissors.

I wish you a wonderful festive season. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
