Despite taking the biggest hit on entries this year, the Red and White Friesians have taking both junior championship and overall championship. Cuthill Towers Classic Ellie continued her form from the depleted Red and White ring to secure overall Dairy interbreed champion.

Bred by A & S Lawrie, the third calver no stranger to success having claimed the breed championship at this show last year. Sired by Poos Stadel Classic, Ellie milked over 11,000 litres last year and this marks the first interbreed championship for the Lawrie family.

Standing reserve to her in the overall was the highly pipped Friesian champion Blythbridge Golwin Rosalee ET. Brought out by Blythbridge Holsteins, this is the 500-cow farm's first homebred champion, having secured the breed championship seven times before.

Again no stranger to the show ring, Rosalee was crowned champion at the livestock show in Birmingham last year. Graded EX 95, the forth calver has already on average milked 48 litres over 290 days. Braedale Goldwyn was the sire behind this one.

Reserve in the Friesian ring was Mr Jack Brewster with his Pine Tree Sid bred daughter Boclair Sid Hope. Hope secured first place in the cow in milk having had two lactations class.

Junior interbreed championship

In the junior interbreed championship, Red and White breeding again shun through with the champion coming in the form of Morwick Ruth. Owned by Michael Howie, Ruth a first calver is again sired by Poos Stadel Classic.

There black and white Friesian comrades took the reserve junior interbreed championship. Blythbride Holsteins also secured this championship meaning they took home both reserve junior interbreed and reserve overall interbreed. It was two year old Blythbride Sid Jackie by Pine tree Sid who was the successfully winner this time.

The Holsteins Friesian came up trumps in the team interbreed competition with the Red and Whites a close second.

Honourable mention

Messrs D C Sanderson took top spot in the Ayshire ring with Sanderson George Evergreen.

This fourth lactation cow in milk was sired by home bred Sanderson George and received honourable mention in the championship line up. Standing reserve was the cow second in class to the champion and again from the Lawrie family. This time it was the five year old Cuthill Towers Crown Ray sired by Ardmore Crown Napier.

In the shorthorn ring it was the senior cow in milk who claimed the limelight. Bishopsbrae Royal Kathleen 2nd bred by Stephen Girvan, caught the eye of Judge James Robinson from Kendal. In reserve was Mr J Treasdale and son with Brafell Rosalyn. Overall champion sash in the Jersey breed went to the syndicate of the Fleming family, CJ Henning and K Agnew with Bluegrass Vindication Harp.

Beef interbreeds

In the beef interbreed pair’s championship it was the Charolais breed who took top honours. The pair brought the female and overall champion together with the male champion to be tapped forward by judge James Goldie of Dumfries. Acquiring reserve position was the Blues, while the Limousin in third secured the three top spots for the Continental breeds.

For the Native Interbreed team competition sponsored by Marks and Spensors it was the Hereford breed which came out on top, closely followed by the Shorthorn and Angus breeds.
