Aviva insurance has decided not to provide a new business insurance quote for cars 14 years or older based on their own claims experience for this segment. In a company statement, it added, “By not taking on more of this risk type, we are protecting our broader customer base and our ability to offer sustainable and competitive motor insurance premiums in Ireland.”

Aviva said that anybody currently insured with Aviva who has an older car will continue to be insured by them. They noted that any Aviva customers who decides to buy an older car will also continue be covered by them.

The company said that as a responsible insurer, they have an obligation to take account of claims and underwriting experience to ensure they are there to protect customers in the long term. They said that they constantly review the performance of their policies and adjust rates and acceptance criteria according to claims experience.

Aviva said that it endeavours to provide consumers with competitive products and premiums across our broad product range. However, it added, “we operate in a competitive environment and accept that we cannot guarantee to provide the lowest premium for all potential customers or be in a position to quote for all risk types.”
