The young singer from Freemount is well regarded on the traditional circuit and has won a number of all-Ireland titles, including Scór honours, over the years.

Elle Marie returned home to her native Cork after enjoying some great days at the recent All-Ireland Fleadh in Sligo.

“I had a brilliant weekend in Sligo and the town rose to the occasion in style. It is one of the best locations for the Fleadh and the welcome was out on its own.”

Fleadh TV on TG4 carried many scenes from the festivities in Sligo and Elle Marie was thrilled to be featured on one of the shows, singing The Land of The Gael.

“It is a song I loved from the first time I heard it. I included it on my album, Where the Allow Waters Flows. There are so many special songs full of heart and meaning out there. It is a privilege to be able to sing and record them,” says Elle Marie.

Her new album, A Roving Heart, features 14 songs, many with deep roots in the Munster region. A number of launch nights have proven highly successful for the young singer who has learned her trade well by listening to the stories and heart songs from the province and further afield.

Senator Labhras Ó Murchú says Elle Marie is one of the foremost traditional singers of her generation.

“Her deep love of her craft, her inheritance of tradition from those near and dear to her, her unique personal style all combine to make Elle Marie a star of note on the traditional circuit. Her latest offering in this CD is indicative of Elle Marie’s deep understanding of and affection for the rich lore of songs which have been passed to us from generation to generation. She is a true example of all that is best in the long and enduring story of Irish song.”

The album opens with a haunting version of My Home at the Foot of Slieve Bloom, an enchanting song from the Laois-Offaly border country. This is a song that has been covered in former times on the country circuit by Gene Stuart from Tyrone and Anthony McBrien from Fermanagh.

Cottage by the Lee, My Kerry Hill, The Jail of Cluain Meala, The Creamery Song, My Heart’s Tonight in Ireland, The Silver River Feale, The Green Hills of Clare, The Night the Goat Broke Loose in Grand Parade, The Mall of Lismore and My Last Farewell are among the many other songs performed by Elle Marie on this fine album, recorded at Sonas Studios, Killarney, and produced by Tony O’Flaherty and Elle Marie.

Cork has produced many fine singers in this genre over the years and Elle Marie is right up there with the best of them.

A Roving Heart is now available countrywide.
