Now in its 41st year, the Irish Texel Sheep Society continues to expand with in excess of 350 members who, with the use of improved genetics and using the Lambplus programme, are supplying the progressive sheep farmers of Ireland with superior stock rams.

Promotion

The promotion of the Texel breed continues from the successful premier sale which was held recently.

The stand location for this year’s National Ploughing Championships is again back in the National Sheep Breeders Association tunnel (NSBA) located at stand 323 row 15 block 1.

What is at the stand?

This year, the stand will contain four pens compromising of Texel stock rams, Texel lowland crosses, Hilltex (Scottish Blackface X Texel ram) and a sample of Texel-cross lambs suitable for the popular QualEUtex Lamb Producer Group, which will have representatives on hand to discuss the scheme with interested suppliers.

On the Texel society stand, there will be members available to discuss the breed and any queries from new or intending members on management, breeding or any other relevant topics.

Upcoming ram sale

Upcoming Texel ram sales will also be listed on the stand, as well as a selection of the ever-popular in-lamb ewe sales which are due to take place at various locations around the country.

These are usually hosted by the various clubs, of which there are seven, or they can be held in a central venue by a limited number of breeders.

These in-lamb ewe sales are an excellent opportunity for existing breeders to avail of new bloodlines or for new breeders to start a flock of young breeding stock.

All forthcoming sales and any other events can also be seen on the society website at www.irishtexel.com.
