About The Competition

So everybody says that the most important part of a competition is the participation. That's very true, but what's way more exciting are the prizes! The prizes offered here have one huge advantage over the prizes many other competitions have to offer; they don't just last a week, a month or a year. We are giving you the opportunity to win heifers and hoggets that will produce calves and lambs that will allow you to manage your own herd or flock! Think of how many you could have within a few years. So what exactly is on offer?

Beef Breeding Heifers
- Irish Aberdeen Angus
- Irish Angus
- Aubrac
- Limousin
- Parthenaise
- Salers

Dairy Breeding Heifers
- Holstein Friesian
- Montebeliarde

Sheep
- Beltex
- Charollais
- Mayo Blackface
- Mayo Mule
- Texel
- Tullow Sheep Breeders
- Vendeen

If you qualify as a finalist you will be informed at the end of July. Finalists will come to the Tullamore show on 14th August where all animals will be on display at the Irish Farmers Journal stand. More importantly, it is at the Tullamore show that the finalists will be interviewed in an informal and friendly manner in order to pick the winner. Doesn't sound too hard does it? The hard work put into answering your questions will be duly recognised in front of the large crowds at the show. Many will be very envious of the prizes the winners are taking home!
