FTMTA HRM toolkit

With growing statutory requirements on all employers in relation to the management of staff in recent years, best practice in the area of human resource management (HRM) has become a key tool in the running of a professional business and the farm machinery sector is no different to other business areas.

There is also a growing realisation by owners and managers within the sector that staff are a significant asset to a business and that, as such, the correct procedures have a positive effect on the business.

FTMTA has long sought to support our member firms in this regard and, this year, the association is working on the development of a HRM toolkit to deliver the skill set to our members to better equip them to deal with these matters.

Course in agricultural mechanisation

With the closing date for applications for IT Tralee’s new bachelor of science in agricultural mechanisation course approaching on Friday 7 August, interested potential students should not waste any time in completing and submitting their applications. To apply for a place on the course, potential students must have been accepted by a sponsoring farm machinery business who will provide the required work placements. Potential students should obtain the application form from their sponsor firm and return it to IT Tralee by 7 August. The form includes a section which must be completed by the sponsor firm before the application form is submitted to the college.

This new third level course is specifically designed to meet the needs of both the modern farm machinery sector and high-calibre school leavers seeking to enter the industry as aspiring service people.
