Irish Country Living has once again teamed up with acclaimed Irish artist Róisín O’Farrell, to offer one lucky reader the chance to win one of her original paintings.

The piece, entitled Raindrops keep falling on my head, measures 20cm x 20cm, is presented in a handmade white timber frame and would normally retail at €575. Appropriately enough, it has something of an agricultural theme, featuring Róisín’s trademark wellie boots.

“I chose one of my wellie boot paintings because in the Irish summer they are an essential part of our wardrobe, whether it be family adventures or festival fun,” explains Róisín.

One of Ireland’s recession success stories, Róisín only turned her lifelong passion for art into her profession after being made redundant in 2008. Today she shows her work in established galleries throughout Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US.

Her vibrantly-colourful paintings in textured, buttery oils, feature warm, light-filled period interiors and tumbled families of rain boots, as well as other motifs such as some of her newer vintage cutlery paintings.

This summer, she has launched two solo shows in Co Kerry at the Park Hotel, Kenmare, and Aghadoe Heights, Killarney, with many of the pieces inspired by some of Ireland’s most stunning country homes, including Marlfield House in Gorey, Ballyfin in Co Laois and Castle Leslie.

However, if you would like to have one of Róisín’s original paintings in your home, all you have to do is let us know what you like to do with your old wellies. For example, do you use them as planters for the garden, doorstoppers or alternative bird feeders? The more creative the suggestion, the better, with a high-quality photo to illustrate. Closing date for entries is 9 August, so email your entry to mmoynihan@farmers journal.ie or post to Róisín O’Farrell art competition, Irish Country Living, Irish Farmers Journal, Irish Farm Centre, Bluebell, Dublin 12.
