GM imports set to meet domestic shortfall – Brazil

As a result of strong corn exports, Brazil is facing a domestic shortfall in corn to feed its massive poultry and beef sectors. To meet the shortfall, Brazil is preparing to allow imports of GM corn from the US. The country has already imported 550,000t of corn this year and this is likely to rise further.

USDA forecasting record harvest – US

The US is headed for record corn and soya bean harvests this year. In its latest crop production report, the USDA is forecasting an 11% increase in corn production to 385m tonnes, while soya bean production is forecast to rise 3% to 110m tonnes.
