UK - PORK EXPORTS FALL ON LOWER EU DEMAND

UK pork exports for the month of July fell by 7% compared with last year to 14,300t as reduced shipments to Denmark and Germany more than offset the growing export demand from China. The amount of pork imported by the UK grew by 12% in July, with the majority of this product imported from Denmark.

BRAZIL - SUGAR PRICES HIT FOUR-YEAR HIGH

Sugar prices have rallied to their highest point since 2012 on the back of dry weather concerns in Brazil impacting the size of the country’s sugar crop this year. Added to this, the International Sugar Organisation is forecasting a 7m tonne shortfall in production this year compared with demand.

EGYPT - NO BIDS ON LATEST WHEAT TENDER

In its latest tender for wheat, the Egyptian grain import authority, GASC, did not receive a single offer to supply wheat from traders. Egypt was seeking cargoes of 55,000 to 60,000t of wheat, but got no offers, as its new policy of zero ergot contamination in shipments continues to discourage trade.

RUSSIA - TORG TARGETS $1BN IN EXPORTS

Russian meat processing giant Miratorg has set itself a target of reaching €900m in annual exports by 2019. The company said it aims to export 25% of all production in the next three to five years, which should be close to 250,000t per annum. The Middle East is the primary export destination.
