Valerie’s of Aughrim in Co Galway is celebrating its 10th anniversary from 30 May to 6 June. It will feature dancing to Lorraine and The Conquerors and Michael English and his band, a concert with the Keane family from Caherlistrane, a barn dance, and a céilí with the Glenside. The celebrations also include a performance by the Galway Bay Jazz Band and shows by Chris Dallat and Shane Moore.

Annmarie O’Riordan is looking forward to her first trip to Newfoundland in November. The young Cork singer has been invited to perform on two concerts along with some other Irish acts including Gary Gamble and the Ryan Turner Band.

Sean Corrigan has released a new radio single, I’ll Find It Where I Can. It was produced by Brian Kerrigan and features a number of top Irish session musicians. Sean hails from Kinawley, Co Fermanagh.

You Beat All I’ve Ever Seen, a slow country classic, is the choice of song for the new single from Aine Crehan. The young Galway singer plans to release her debut album later this year.

Seamus Sweeney from Kilcloghans, Tuam, who died recently, was closely associated with the local country and céilí scene for many years. He featured with the West Coasters, Matt Cunningham, and the Caher Sound. Seamus was also a former physio with the Galway senior football team.

Jim Tobin, the well-known Meath singer, was bereaved last week by the death of his wife Caroline. Jim fronted The Firehouse country band and enjoyed a number of chart hits in the 1970s. He also had a major selling album entitled Jim Tobin Sings the Songs of Jim Reeves. Caroline is survived by their daughters Avril and Yvonne, in-laws, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
