The majority of the 70 or so lots on offer sold, with calved cows of varying ages freely making €1,200 to €1,500. Demand for older cows calving after April was not as strong, with these cows making around €800 on average.

Some late-calving heifers with EBIs approaching €200 failed to sell. The highest prices were paid for cows with large frames, in milk and calved in the last three or four weeks. The highest price of €1,600 was paid for a five-year-old Holstein Friesian cow with an EBI of €108 that had calved the day before the sale.

Attendance at the sale was low, a reflection of the bad weather and the busy time of year. However, bidding was brisk, both from farmers and dealers buying on behalf of others. A number of the older dry cows with large frames and who are not due to calve for a number of months were bought with the likely intention of fattening.
