According to Met Éireann, the highs of last Wednesday’s temperatures have not been seen since 28.1°C was recorded in Oakpark in Carlow on 12 June 2007.

However, Wednesday’s highs fall short of the hottest temperatures in the last 20 years, with 31.0°C recorded at Casement in Dublin on 19 July 2006.

The highest temperature recorded in the last 10 years was cited in Dillon, Co Roscommon, 19 July 2016 where they hit 30.4°C.

Farmers have been making the most of the good weather, with many saving hay and straw throughout the country.

The weather is expected to return to normal this coming week.
