Ireland international rugby player and suckler farmer Seán O’Brien was among the 250 people who attended a secondhand farm machinery sale on behalf of Gordon Hegarty & Sons over the weekend.

The sale at Tullow, Co Carlow comprised of over 160 lots. A range of tractors including a 2012 Deutz Agrotron M625 and Landini Legend 130, hedgecutters, ploughs, mowers and sprayers alike pleased the crowd, with the majority sticking around for the entirety of the auction.

Top prices included the 2012 Deutz Agrotron M625 with 7,080 hours being sold at €50,000, a Rabe Accord One Pass selling for €14,000 and a Strautmann Super Vitesse 2 Silage Wagon selling for €13,500.

There was also strong interest in a number of ploughs, with a Kverneland ES80/200 four-furrow reversible plough reaching €7,800.

This Malone Post Driver kicked off the bidding with a lot of attention finally selling for €2,750.

Auctioneer Micheal Doyle was pleased with the result of the auction, commenting on the strong demand in grass equipment. Doyle said the trade was very good across all machinery.

There was no shortage of movement in seasonal machinery for Doyle and the Hegartys. One particular farmer was clearly planning ahead, snapping up a Kverneland Taarup 853 Straw Blower for €6,600.

This Strautmann Super Vitesse 2 Silage Wagon was sold for €13,500.

Since the auction ended on Saturday, there has been high activity with subsequent movement of machinery in recent days.

A small number of lots remained unsold, including a Taarup 4332 CT 10ft trailed mower which was bid up to €6,000 on the day, a Sulky DPX70 Fertiliser Spreader and a 2008 Zetor 8441 with 5,450 hours on the clock.
