Irish responses account for less than 0.25% of all submissions made so far in the CAP 2020 consultation process.

More than 69,000 submissions were made by European citizens and organisations by Tuesday, of which a paltry 160 came from Ireland.

The deadline for the consultation period is less than three weeks away, on 2 May.

Responses have more than doubled in the space of a week, rising from 32,000 to 69,013, but responses from Ireland remain low.

In fact, Ireland is being out-done by a country that will not even be part of the next CAP.

UK outdoes Ireland

The UK – which will be outside the next CAP but is currently a member and is therefore eligible to participate – has submitted 247 responses to the consultation.

Germany is leading the pack with some 43,281 responses up to Tuesday. This accounts for a hefty 63% of all responses received from across the EU so far.

Responses must be completed online before 2 May, 2017.
