• There is good news for planners and farmers alike. After coming under severe pressure, the Department of Agriculture has extended the Knowledge Transfer programme deadline by two months.
  • There was heavy and fast bidding in Roscrea on Monday where a Limousin bull sold for a whopping €12,600.
  • The outlook is better now than it was two months ago on the global dairy front. Prices at Tuesday’s Global Dairy Trade auction in New Zealand rose for the fifth consecutive time.
  • However, it’s steady in the Irish dairy sector with Aurivo being the latest co-op to hold milk price for April.
  • And, finally, a Co Donegal man has avoided jail despite kicking a member of An Garda Síochána in the head at an agricultural show.

Dab-tastic! It’s a family affair on the Hamilton dairy farm with dad Kenneth, mum Lorna and kids from eldest down, Andrew, Danielle, Alison, Abbie and James all lending a hand with their 30-head dairy herd at Cornafean, Co Cavan. They have converted and built all their sheds from a previously suckler and sheep farm themselves. Kenneth has installed a system in the dairy that heats his water for free.
