Winds of up to 60km/h around the country have led Met Eireann to issue a yellow weather warning this morning. The warning is due to remain in place until 6 pm this evening. A spokesperson from the meteorological service said that coastal towns are most likely to be affected, especially in parts of Ulster.

Alongside the strong winds there will be a number of heavy frequent showers in northern counties during the day, with isolated thunderstorms likely to occur some time this afternoon.

South-eastern areas are less likely to be affected by the warning, with this part of the country seeing drier and brighter conditions than other regions.

In Munster this morning showers will become widespread and they will be heavy at times with the risk of hail and thunder. Winds will also be strong in this part of the country until the evening.

In Connacht showers will become isolated later in the day and the strong to gale force and gusty west to northwest winds will gradually start to decrease. Highest temperatures in this part of the country will be 7 or 8 degrees while highest national temperatures will be between 7 and 10 degrees.

Tonight

Showers will become confined to northern and western counties while clear spells develop elsewhere. West to northwest winds will gradually moderate inland but will remain strong and gusty near coasts, especially further north.
