Sion Mills-based Jimmy Hendry will fulfil a long held dream when he headlines The Golden Years of Country Music show in The Alley Theatre in Strabane on Friday 15 January.

The show will be recorded live. When the dvd is released in the coming weeks, it will feature introductions to each song by many legends of the scene, including Big Tom, Brian Coll, Phil Begley, Dickie Rock, Paddy Cole, Hugo Duncan, Mary Duff, Crawford Bell and others, all of whom have recorded short introductions to the songs in advance.

The Golden Years of County Music concert will see Jimmy Hendry, Patricia Maguire and The Jimmy Hendry Band on stage along with special guest, Jacqui Sharkey. The compere for the night is Steven Lynch.

“The show and video is dedicated to those singers who shared their music with people throughout the world. This is the most authentic country music show of its kind and defines an era in country music which is unlikely to be surpassed,” says Jimmy.

“Hit numbers from such legendary American singers as George Jones, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, Buck Owens, Charley Pride, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and Tom T Hall are included here. We look forward to a very special night in Strabane and later to the release of the dvd.”

Jimmy spent most of his musical career in Canada and Nashville. He is a seasoned singer, guitarist, session player and songwriter.

During his time in Canada, he had a number one hit with his self-penned song, Love Proof Heart. Vince Gill played guitar on the single and it won Jimmy The Socan Award which was presented to him by Gordon Lightfoot on behalf of The Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers of Canada.

Tickets for the show in Strabane on Friday night will be available at the door and patrons are in for a real treat. The show will also go on tour at selected venues over the coming months.
