An Garda Síochána has reported finding the body of a third man they were searching for in a river, following the double murder of two men in their 60s at a farm in north Cork.

Gardaí were originally alerted to the incident just before midnight on Thursday 25 February at a farm at Curragorm, Mitchelstown.

Local uniform and plain clothes gardaí attended the scene, supported by the Armed Support Unit, where the body of a deceased male in his 60s was found.

Gardaí say they then found the body of a second man in his 60s in a shed on the farm. Both men are understood to be brothers.

A search began on the morning of Friday 26 February for a third man, believed to be a brother of the two men, and a red Toyota Corolla van.

Third body found

This was subsequently found by gardaí at an unconnected farmhouse in Killacluig, Mitchelstown, and gardaí discovered a body in a river nearby.

“The bodies of the two males remain at the scene. Dr Margot Bolster, locum assistant state pathologist, will attend the scene and post mortems will be carried out at Cork University Hospital later," gardaí said.

“An Garda Síochána appeals to any person with information on the incidents that occurred last night to contact investigating gardaí at Mitchelstown Garda Station 025 84833, the Garda Confidential Number 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
