The North East Limousin club once again held its club calf finals at the Virginia Show.

While ground conditions were wet, rain held off on the day to ensure proceedings went off without a glitch.

Tasked with judging on the day was Gerry Walsh, who runs the well-known Gerrygullinane herd in Ballina, Co Mayo.

On the day, he awarded top honours to Willie Smith’s Millbrook Leader ET. Leader is a son of Ampertaine Foreman, a bull which is really leaving his mark at sales in recent months.

Dam of leader is the renowned show cow and three-time Balmoral interbreed champion Millbrook Ginger Spice. This cow has now proven herself as a breeder as well as a show cow, with three embryo calves sold to the Graham’s herd – claiming top accolades at this year’s Royal Highland Show.

Leader secured top spot in the September to November-2016 bull class, before going on to claim the North East Club male calf title and eventually the overall North East Club calf championship.

Reserve

Securing the club female title and reserve overall calf championship was Cappahugh Louise from Joe and Margaret Henson, Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath.

Female and reserve overall North East Limousin Club calf champion, Cappahugh Louise.

Louise is sired by a Vantastic son, Wilodge Joskins, and out of a homebred dam by Marchermore Augustus.
