According to a new publication from the Central Statistics Office, monthly factory gate, or wholesale, prices increased by 0.6% in June 2016 compared to May 2016. This compares to an increase of 0.3% for June of last year.

The most significant changes were increases in other food products such as bread and confectionery, up 0.7%, while dairy product prices fell by 0.6%. Meat prices, however, rose slightly compared to May by 0.2%.

Year-on-year

Overall, however, factory gate prices fell by 1.3% year-on-year.

Dairy product prices had the biggest drop in the food category after fish and fish products, falling by 8.3%. This was followed by fruit and vegetables, which fell by 3.2%, animal feed products which fell by 2.6% and meat products, which saw a drop of 1.2%.

The price of energy products decreased by 14.1% in the year to June, while petrol and diesel fuel prices decreased by 7.9%.

Energy products increased by 5.6% in June this year compared to the previous month, while petrol and diesel fuels increased by 2.9%.
