i have just bought ewe lamb,s since the cold weather started i have feeding them a mix of beet pulp rolled oats and rolled barley can anyone tell me is this a good feed or was i better with something else.. thank,s
it looks like your lambs are well covered for energy, though rolled cereals have high starch digestibility and the animals can experience a shortage of energy between meals:to avoid this you could substitute part of your rolled barley with ground barley. I'd like to know what kind of hay you have(grass or legume?) and also the actual weight of the lambs. In my opinion you definitely need some source of protein in your ration, you should replace at least a 20% of your mix (pulp+oats+barley) with some proteic feed (proteic pea, horse bean, soy meal ecc.)or also use a 50% of legume hay (clover, alfalfa ecc.)if your actual hay is a grass one.
please, can you tell me the age and the weight of lambs? and also what kind of different feed (hay, straw, grass) you have in your farm? it could be useful to make a suitable ration. Also, which is the final production? (meat? milk? mixed purpose?)
