Managed by Joe O’Mahony and Gerry Smyth, the now 250 cow breeding herd saw 40 of the 43 animals on offer finding new homes. With local auctioneer Paul Murtagh, Murtagh Bros REA at the helm, a top price of €3,250 was achieved for lot 32 Gigginstown House Blackbird.

The January 2013 in-calf heifer is by stock bull Penguin Mr Elevate F253, who himself was purchased for 32,000gns at Stirling in 2008. Blackbird and all in-calf heifers were running with junior stock bull Gigginstown House Luka.

Next top of €3,100 was achieved twice for lots 25 and 34. First at the money was Gigginstown House Gammer Gal M014, this December 2012 heifer sold springing and was again sired by senior stock bull Mr Elevate. Gigginstown Miss Gold N049 was the second at that money, again in-calf but this time by imported bull Arnydie Black Saracen E141.

Overall, 19 out of 20 lots of heifers were sold. The average price was over €2,350.

Bulls

For the bulls it was Friarstown Empire J160 progeny which led the way, with two sons selling for €2,700. Lot 2, a September 2013 born bull called Gigginstown House Lord Indiana N117, was first at the money. This one goes back to Ebon Hill Extra Gold and had a replacement index of €198. Matching this was lot 7, Gigginstown House Maverick N129. Maverick comes from the famous Miss Essence line and saw one of the highest Terminal Index’s in the Catalogue

Bulls saw a clearance of 91% with an average just ahead of the heifers at €2,400.
