Weanling bull prices are running 15c/kg, or €52/head, above the same time last year.

Heifer prices are ahead by about €15 to €20/head.

The average 350kg suckler bred continental weanling bull is making €850/head, while the equivalent heifer is making about €820/head.

Exporter activity, feedlot buyers and solid farmer demand are the driving forces behind the buoyant trade.

Demand

Export demand is primarily for lighter weanling bulls suitable for the Turkish market, well muscled bulls are being snapped up for the Italian market, with buyers focusing on special autumn weanling sales to secure numbers.
