Factories are putting pressure on beef prices. Base quotes for steers and heifers have been reduced by 5c/kg, with the general base quote for steers at €4.10/kg and heifers at €4.20/kg. Sellers with stronger negotiating power are resisting the lower quotes.

IFA livestock chair Angus Woods said in some cases more than €4.30/kg has been paid to get stock, with paid base prices of €4.32/kg and €4.33/kg for heifers.
