A mother of five from Roscommon has become the 22nd death on Irish farms so far this year. The woman has been named as Lucy Connor from Kilrooskey, Co Roscommon. She died after she was trampled while moving cattle with her son’s girlfriend late on Wednesday evening.

The cattle are understood to have become scared by cats while they were being moved. They subsequently charged and hit the two women.

Lucy was pronounced dead at the scene while the second woman involved, Sharon Trimble, was brought to Roscommon General Hospital. No recent update has been given on Sharon’s condition.

Lucy is survived by her husband Pat as well as her five sons.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has carried out an investigation at the scene.

There was a total of 16 deaths in all of 2013.
