A third Dutch poultry farm has been hit by bird flu. The farm is in Kamperveen, approximately 100 km from the two other Dutch farms affected by the virus.

The farm has 10,000 birds and these will be destroyed in accordance with European rules. A 10 km zone has been established around the farm and 34 other poultry farms have been identified within this area. These farms are now being sampled and tested for bird flu.

Second case

Meanwhile, researchers have now confirmed that that the bird flu at the second bird flu-affected farm in Ter Aar is the highly pathogenic H5N8. This is the same variant that was found at the site of the first case, a farm at Hekendorp. The cull of 43,000 laying hens at Ter Aer is expected to be completed today.

As a precautionary measure authorities have imposed a total ban on transporting poultry and other poultry, eggs, poultry manure and used bedding until Sunday afternoon.
