Reacting to the announcement by Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed in the Seanad on Thursday that 750 farmers awaiting GLAS payments are to be paid by the end of the week, IFA Rural Development Chairman Joe Brady said the Minister must put maximum pressure on his Department to make payments to all the remaining 8,000 farmers due a payment. Despite three protests last week and assurances to farming organisations of frequent payment runs, thousands of farmers are still waiting on payments.

The Department said 1,500 payments issued in the past two weeks, with a further payment run clearing a further 750 primarily commonage cases expected to issue this week.

DAFM claims further payment runs will issue on an ongoing basis as cases are cleared. A total of approximately 2,500 farmers participating in AEOS are awaiting payments.

The Department said payments will continue to issue on an ongoing basis following successful completion of the required checks.

IFA rural development chair Joe Brady urged Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to immediately pursue with the European Commission the proposal that all farmers awaiting GLAS payments are now paid.
