Today’s sale at Aurivo’s Balla Mart saw a slightly smaller sale than last weeks special weanling sale. However the trade was strong and steady for better quality animals. Lesser quality types continue to be a weaker trade.

In the bullock ring, those over 550kg sold mainly from €1200 to €1300 with the very tops making over €1300 per head. Lighter stores were a firm trade also with bullocks from 400kg to 500kg selling from €1000 to €1200 for average quality types. Top quality U grades in the same weight range are making from €1050 to €1300. Plainer types made from €900 to €1100.

The heifer ring saw a strong trade for all good quality types with farmers and jobbers active around the ringside. Heifers at about 500kg sold mainly from €1100 to €1150, with top quality R+ and U grades making up to €1300. Lighter types from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from €1000 to €1300 with top quality types making up to €1350.

Weanling trade

The weanling trade was fairly steady on the day, with light plainer types a little easier. Bulls from 300kg to 400kg sold mainly from €800 to €1050 with well conformed Limousin and Charolais making up to €1200. Lighter bulls from 200kg to 300kg sold mainly from €600 for lighter types to €850 for average quality types. The top third made to over €900.

Heifer trade

The heifer trade was slightly stronger than the bull trade with heifers from 300kg to 400kg making from €800 to €1060, with the top third making up to €1100. Lighter heifers from 200kg to 300kg sold mainly from €600 to €850 with well conformed types making over €900.
