Thousands of acres of straw remain on the ground, some for more than a month now, as weather conditions make baling difficult. While cutting of grain progresses, baling has fallen further behind, with little suitable weather forecast for the next week.

Farmers say all their straw – whether baled, cut or still standing crop – has been sold. It is now a question of getting sufficient drying in the shorter September days to bale it.
