We’re all a bit fascinated by who owns land but we now know who in the current Dáil carries a few acres.

There are the obvious ones like junior ag minister Andrew Doyle, who is farming hard in Co Wicklow. Former ICMSA president Jackie Cahill has the dairy farm in Tipperary, while Bobby Alyward has land in Kilkenny, and Michael Healy Rae has large tracts of Kerry.

Michael’s brother, Danny Healy Rae, has 50 acres of farmland at Fossa, Kilgarvan, Co Kerry, five acres at Gortnaboul, Kilgarvan, and 38 acres at Gullaba, Kilgarvan.

But then you have Fianna Fáil man Declan Breathnach in Louth, who has 90 acres of farmland in Knockbridge, Dundalk, Co Louth.

Michael Collins in west Cork lists himself as a farmer, undertaker and casual labourer. He owns 58 acres of farmland in Schull, Co Cork, and leases 22 acres in Crookhaven, Co Cork.

Minister for Arts Heather Humphreys has 62 acres at Drumake, Newbliss, Co Monaghan. She is the sister of senior IFA figure Bert Stewart.

Ceann comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl has circa 100 acres at Fennor and Shanacloon, Co Kildare.

Finally, Fianna Fáil’s Billy Kelleher has shares in Kerry co-op and Kerry Group plc. He also has 126 acres of a dairy farm at Ballyphilip, White Cross, Co Cork, and 60 acres at Coolgreen, Whites Cross, Co Cork.
