Grain markets continue to fluctuate up and down on a day-to-day basis but in the main prices at this time of the year will remain relatively steady barring a major weather event. On Wednesday’s trade in Paris and Chicago, grain futures edged a little higher in the main supported by greater demand and the weakness of the euro.

Europe

On the Euronext exchange in Paris (MATIF), prices generally traded higher.

Wheat for May 2016 delivery gained slightly during Wednesday’s trade in Paris to finish just below €188/t, while May 2017 gained marginally to settle at €195/t.

Maize (corn) futures were also improved. June 2016 delivered maize gained slightly to just over €176/t, while June 2017 maize increased by €1/t to finish at €187/t.

May 2016 futures prices for rapeseed made strong gains in Paris yesterday – up €4/t to finish at €380/t. May 2017 rapeseed gained by €1/t to finish at €368/t.

Chicago

On the Chicago exchange (CBOT), wheat prices were under pressure while maize futures rallied.

SRW wheat for December 2015 delivery lost $2/t to finish at $176/t (€166/t), while December 2016 SRW wheat actually gained slightly to settle at $191/t (€180/t).

Maize (corn) prices made modest gains during Wednesday’s trade in Chicago. December 2015 maize increased by $1/t to settle at $144/t (€136/t), while maize for December 2017 delivery also gained by $1/t to finish Wednesday’s trade in Chicago at $155/t (€146/t).
