I see Carbery is on the hunt for a new chief executive. He or she will have a big pair of shoes to fill – those of Dan McSweeney who is retiring after 25 years in the job.

McSweeney built Carbery up to being a solid, profitable dairy business operating on three continents. He was given the space to do so by his shareholders – the four west Cork co-ops. Milk suppliers in West Cork regularly complain about their co-ops but rarely complain about Carbery. Under McSweeney, Carbery paid the top price to farmers.
