A 101-acre property near Banteer, in Co Cork has the potential to satisfy an expanding dairy farmer or a young farmer with ambition.

This extensive package, located at Derrynagowna, Glen South, near Banteer, contains a large four-bedroom residence, a range of farm buildings and 101 acres of top-quality land.

Offered by Michael O’Donovan of Sherry Fitzgerald O’Donovan, the package is offered in the entire with a price tag of €1.1m. The sale is by private treaty on behalf of a retired couple.

O’Donovan confirmed to Irish Country Living that a few enquiries were made as to selling the holding in lots, which there is flexibility for. So far, interest has come from dairy farmers, with one enquiry made from outside the county. Located in a dairy area, one would expect such strong interest.

The lands

The lands themselves, for the majority, are high-quality with 10 acres slightly heavier than the rest. The holding is divided into five or six main divisions with a few smaller paddocks around the main farmyard area.

The lands are well maintained and in good condition. It has stock fencing across all of the paddocks, a private water supply as well as a natural water supply.

The paddocks slope gently and face in a southwesterly direction. While sloping, the land is still capable of handling machinery.

There is road frontage onto two road, which provides extensive access to the paddocks.

Auctioneer Michael O’Donovan believes that the holding is capable of facilitating a number of agricultural enterprises. This land has been rented for some years and was previously operated as a dairy farm. It is currently all in permanent pasture.

The farmyard

The farmyard area is a substantial package in itself. It contains a range of farm buildings for a variety of purposes and centrally located is the main slatted shed. This unit is large and has the capability of handling over 100 cows and 200 lighter animals. The shed is slatted and contains cubicles.

The farmyard contains six buildings in total, with storage facilities available for machinery, livestock and silage, along with a calf shed. The sheds are all in good condition but slight investment can be made to unlock the full potential here.

The area is spacious and practical, ideal for handling machinery. Though the farm used to be dairy, a new parlour would need to be installed for a fully functioning dairy farm to be put in place here. It has an operating water supply and the electrics are all in working order.

The residence

The residence is an impressive four-bed farmhouse located beside the yard area and centrally located in proximity to the lands. The house has a traditional country feel. On the ground floor, the property contains an entrance hall, a dining area, a sitting room, a shower room and a rear hall. It also contains a kitchen area with a four-oven AGA cooker. Upstairs in the residence are the four bedrooms, which are all relatively spacious. A utility room can be found outside the house, as well as an 8m x 5m garage.
