Some 69 farmers have been paid approximately €314,000 to date under the weather-related crop loss support measure, figures from the Department of Agriculture show.

A total of 167 farmers applied to the scheme, which has €1.5m available to farmers whose crops were affected by the bad weather in 2016.

A Department spokesperson said: “In a large number of cases, further information has been requested from applicants, and as this information is received more cases will be processed.”

The maximum compensation available is €10,500 (€300/ha x 35ha), applying to farmers who lost over 50% of their crop.
