“Farms of this size are not readily available in Meath,” says John Harrington of Smith Harrington auctioneers. This statement is fair. The majority of farms (almost 60%) that come to the market in Meath are under 40 acres.

So now that an 86-acre, top-quality arable farm in the village of Bohermeen is on the market, Harrington expects it to turn heads in the locality. You can’t really blame him for such expectation. The farm itself is high quality. All in one block, it is set out in seven divisions. Currently in oilseed rape, the farm was a beef farm until 10 years ago when it was converted to tillage.

An additional bonus is that the farm is fenced, but can be subdivided as the fields are large. Therefore the property is suited to just about any enterprise. Harrington also noted that there is a well on the farm. Whatever about the quality of the ground here, its location next to the village of Bohermeen is very desirable.

The farm has road frontage and may have potential for future planning, pending relevant approval. The farm is also located in close proximity to other major towns, including Kells (11km), Navan (8km) and Trim (12.5km).

The sale

The farm is going for public auction on 15 May in Smith Harrington’s salerooms in Navan, Co Meath. The farm is being sold by a private seller who is well known in the locality. Enquiries so far have been encouraging according to Harrington, but the experienced auctioneer is more than aware of the peculiarity of the auction room and the land market.

The farm is guided for €900,000 or almost €10,500/ac.
