“My brothers and sisters play GAA. So I thought it would be a great idea to target the Westmeath teams. I knit team hats for them and they can wear them in the winter when they are training. I use different colour wool, to match the team’s colours.

“I am getting better at doing patterns. I can do the plain stitch and the pearl stitch.

“I like to knit with chunky wool. It is easier and faster to knit with. We have a problem sometimes finding chunky wool. It is not easy to get, so we have to make a trip to a shop in Athlone. We can’t get maroon coloured wool anywhere. That is the Westmeath colour so I need to find it!

“I also knit hats for children and babies too. I am thinking about learning to knit small jumpers for babies too, to give as presents.

“I knit every single day. I have my basket with the needles and wool beside the remote control in the corner of the sitting room. That is my work station. I like to multitask; knit and watch my favourite TV shows, Neighbours and Home and Away.

“I had a nickname once, ‘Two for a tenner Cully’, because my hats are €5 each, or two for a tenner!

“At the minute I am very busy stocking up on hats for Christmas. This is my busiest time of year. I knit a hat every day. I sold lots of hats last Christmas. I went to different markets and people loved them. The most popular colours at Christmas are red and green, or gold sparkles.

“I can’t wait for Christmas. It is my favourite time of year. We all have a Chinese and hot chocolate on Christmas Eve and watch Christmas movies. We sleep in the sitting room and wait for Santa Clause to come. It is a tradition every year.”
