With equally as much interest in their stands as the major manufacturers at Agritechnica, we visit a selection of the smaller companies with useful products which appeal to a broad spectrum of farmers. Fendt tractors are considered by many farmers as the premium brand in terms of specification, technology and comfort. This week, Alistair Chambers takes three Fendts from three eras into the field. The difference between these tractors has changed a lot in the last 25 years, especially in terms of technology and the level of automation now available to make the driver’s life easier.

Not forgetting about the other end of the market, we look at a number of different tractor brands which appeal to the dairy and drystock farmer. We spoke to a number of owner-operators to get their impression of the tractor and the reasons they bought the particular brand. These are tractors that are in everyday use on farms across Ireland.

Lastly, we get behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class. The premium car manufacturer has ventured into the 4x4 sector more commonly occupied by numerous Japanese car makers. Alistair Chambers gives his impressions.
