Farm manager for Clonakilty Agricultural College

Clonakilty Agricultural College in Co Cork is seeking a new farm manager.

The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day management of the farm enterprises, including a large pasture-based spring-calving dairy herd and a smaller drystock herd of suckler cows, dairy calf-to-beef and sheep at Clonakilty College farm.

The management of the dairy herd will include the delivery of the college’s research programme.

This will include the management of the research experiments in Clonakilty, management of assigned farm staff, farm infrastructure management, maintenance of farm records and monitoring and ensuring full compliance with all health and safety requirements.

The role holder will ensure high levels of grassland management, breeding and reproduction management and monitoring and ensuring high levels of animal health and welfare.

They will also collect data and disseminate it to dairy farmers and students when required.

They will assist the college’s teaching staff with the preparation of information for use in publications and weekly reports.

A QQI level six diploma in farm management or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline is essential.

Dairy farm manager needed in Cork

A 450-cow spring-calving dairy farm is seeking an ambitious farm manager in Cork for 2022.

The farm has excellent facilities, including a rotary parlour and cubicle housing.

The farm manager will be responsible for the full day-to-day running of the farm and will report back to the business owners.

The successful candidate will lead a high standard of grassland and cow management. They will direct a team of staff, complete weekly rosters and oversee rostered time off.

The individual will manage the pricing and ordering of all farm inputs, liaising with contractors and following budgets and targets set out by the business owners for the year.

A good attitude and communication skills are highly important for this role, says the farm owner.

Previous experience of running a large-scale farm would be an advantage, but ambitious individuals with a willingness to learn and progress are also welcome to apply.

Dairy herdsperson wanted in Kildare

A herdsperson is required for large crossbred dairy herd in Celbridge, Co Kildare. The farm is less than a 30-minute drive to Dublin city centre.

The farm has been recently converted to a grass-based dairy system and has excellent facilities, including a 54-point Waikato rotary milking shed.

The successful candidate will have a key role on the farm, including milking on a shared roster with just one milking per day, grassland management and feed allocation and animal health and husbandry.

In spring, the post holder will also have a role in calf rearing.

An enjoyable working environment and an excellent working roster with lots of time off will be provided, according to the farm owner.

A dairy farm manager is sought for a 180-cow, spring-calving and grass-based dairy farm in Mitchelstown, Co Cork.

The successful candidate will manage a modern 20-unit milking parlour with drafting set-up.

Key responsibilities in the role will include milking, calving, breeding and feeding silage.

The farm owner is offering a positive work environment, with regular hours and rostered time off.

Salary for the role will be dependent on experience and will be up to €46,000 per annum.
